Frequently Asked Questions About Our Landscaping, Patios & Driveways
Choosing a landscaping company to transform your garden, patio or driveway is an important decision. At BPM Garden Landscapes & Design, we understand that homeowners want to know exactly how a project will be carried out before work begins.
Below we have answered some of the questions we are most frequently asked about our patios, driveways, garden landscaping and project process. From ground preparation and insurance to deposits, guarantees and keeping your property tidy, we want you to have all the information you need before making a decision.
With more than 25 years of experience in driveway and patio installation and over 30 years of industry experience, we take pride in providing a professional, friendly and straightforward service to our customers across Essex.
Questions We Are Frequently Asked About Our Landscaping Services
1. How deep is the sub-base for a new patio or driveway?
We use a minimum sub-base depth of 150mm for our patios and driveways, subject to the specific requirements of the project.
Proper ground preparation is one of the most important parts of any successful patio or driveway installation. Before laying the finished paving, we excavate to the required depth and install the appropriate sub-base to create a strong and stable foundation.
Our quotations clearly explain the excavation depths and materials being used, so you know how your new patio or driveway will be constructed before work begins.
2. Do you own and operate your own plant and excavation equipment?
Yes. BPM Garden Landscapes & Design has its own plant and excavation equipment.
Having our own equipment allows us to manage the excavation and groundworks required for our projects efficiently and professionally. It also means we are not reliant on hiring equipment for every stage of a project.
From initial excavation and ground preparation through to the finished patio, driveway or landscaped garden, we can manage the work as part of our complete service.
3. Will you keep my property and garden tidy while the work is being carried out?
Absolutely. Keeping a clean and tidy working site is extremely important to us.
Landscaping work can involve excavation, deliveries and the movement of materials, but we understand that we are working at your home. We therefore take care to keep the working area as organised and tidy as possible throughout the project.
Our customers regularly comment on the professional, tidy and respectful way our team works, and we believe that leaving a clean site is an essential part of providing a quality service.
4. Do you speak to the neighbours before starting work?
Yes. Where appropriate, we introduce ourselves to the neighbours on either side before work begins.
We understand that a driveway, patio or garden landscaping project can involve noise, deliveries and increased activity around the property. A simple conversation with the neighbours can help everyone understand what is happening and how long the work is expected to take.
We introduce ourselves, explain what we will be doing and let them know that they can speak to us directly if there is anything they are concerned about during the project. We believe good communication and courtesy towards neighbours are an important part of working professionally in a residential area.
5. When is the deposit due for a landscaping, patio or driveway project?
A deposit is normally due approximately one week before the agreed start date and is usually 25% of the total quoted project price.
The remaining payment arrangements will be explained clearly as part of the quotation and project agreement, so you know what is expected before work starts.
We believe in being transparent about project costs and payment arrangements from the outset, with your quotation setting out the work and materials involved.
6. Do you have public liability and employers’ liability insurance?
Yes. BPM Garden Landscapes & Design has £5 million of Public Liability Insurance and £10 million of Employers’ Liability Insurance.
Having appropriate insurance in place gives our customers additional peace of mind when choosing a professional landscaping contractor to work at their property.
If you would like to see evidence of our current insurance cover, please ask and we will be happy to provide the relevant documentation.
7. Can I see your accreditations, approvals and insurance documents?
Yes. We are happy to provide copies of our relevant accreditations, approvals and insurance documentation.
We understand that homeowners want to make sure they are choosing a reputable and properly established landscaping company. If you would like to see evidence of our accreditations, approved installer status or insurance, simply let us know and we can email the relevant documentation to you.
BPM Garden Landscapes & Design is a Trading Standards Approved Company and is also a Bradstone Approved Installer. Our company background and approvals are explained further on our website.
8. Can I see examples of your previous landscaping work in my local area?
Yes. Where possible, we can provide an address for a completed project in your local area.
We know that seeing examples of a landscaping company’s previous work can be one of the best ways to understand the quality and style of workmanship you can expect.
We have completed patios, driveways, garden landscaping and other outdoor projects across Essex, including areas such as Chelmsford, Brentwood, Braintree and surrounding locations.
We can also show you examples of our recent projects and previous work so you can see the standard of our workmanship for yourself.
9. Will my quotation explain the materials, excavation and timescale for my project?
Yes. Our quotations are detailed and explain the proposed work, excavation depths, materials and approximate project timescale.
We believe a quotation should do more than simply provide a final price. You should be able to understand what you are paying for and how your project will be constructed.
Depending on the project, our quotations can include details of the excavation required, sub-base preparation, paving or other materials, drainage requirements and the approximate duration of the work.
For driveway projects, we can also discuss surface water drainage and the requirements that may apply to the property as part of the initial survey.
10. How long is your workmanship guarantee?
Our workmanship is covered by a 5-year guarantee.
We take pride in the quality of our work and want our customers to have confidence in the installation they are investing in. From the initial ground preparation through to the finished patio, driveway or landscaping project, our aim is to deliver a high standard of workmanship from start to finish.
11. Are you friendly and approachable if I have questions during the project?
Absolutely. We are always happy to answer questions and discuss any concerns you may have throughout your project.
We understand that having work carried out at your home can be a significant investment, so good communication is important. We aim to be polite, approachable and available to discuss the progress of your project.
From the initial consultation and detailed quotation through to completion, we want you to feel informed and comfortable with what is happening at every stage.
